Computers have been in cars since 1991 when engine management systems powered by CPUs became standard. Computers regulate engine performance by computerizing ignition timing, the air-fuel mixture, idle speed, and transmission shifting. As time goes on, computers have become more and more vital to vehicle performance.
At Harrell’s Tire & Auto Service, we perform vehicle computer reflashes, or software updates, using technical service information from the manufacturer. Performing a reflash solves bugs in the vehicle software and is often the answer to active check engine lights because it helps the computer recognize normal changes in the vehicle over time.
